December 12th advent calendar is an abstract winter scene of a chilly Exeter Quay. I enjoy playing around with photo editing software and this is one of those creations!
Today’s advent calendar picture features a snow painting. We don’t often have snow in Southern England but of course it is frequently depicted in Christmas scenes. That is down to the Victorians it seems, as they were in a mini ice age. I found this interesting article that explains more about the tradition.
Today’s advent calendar photo is of the wonderful giraffes. Look closely and you can see the baby giraffe by the trees, born at Paignton zoo. They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. This lone apple is clinging on for today’s advent calendar photo! I do love apples, so tend to eat one every day and the best thing about this time of year is that there are plenty of locally grown ones available. December 5th

Two giant tortoises for the 2nd December. I fed the tortoises at Paignton zoo, at one of their experience days. It was a present from a friend and we had a great time.
